PROGRAM
FOR PARENTS OF CHILDREN WITH ASD
Parents
Place offers an evening support group for parents of children
with Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASD). The group provides
opportunities for:
- Sharing information and resources
- Sharing feelings
- Decreasing isolation by meeting others "in the same
boat"
- Learning to deal more effectively with the EI, CPSE, and
CSE systems
- Developing strategies to cope with children's behavioral
challenges
Meetings
are facilitated by a social worker.
In
addition, monthly, Sunday "Family Days" are held at the Parents Place drop-in center, 2:00-4:00 pm. The Family Days
include 2 hours of play and socialization for children with
ASD and their typically developing siblings. Parents have
the chance to socialize with one another and meet each other's
families. The activities for the children on Family Days are
the same as those offered in our integrated programs for families
and their children birth to five.
